Oily Scalp
An oily scalp is not a hygiene problem. Washing harder usually makes it worse, because stripping oil signals the scalp to produce more of it.

An oily scalp is not a hygiene problem. Washing harder usually makes it worse, because stripping oil signals the scalp to produce more of it.
What is actually happening
Sebum production is driven by hormones, genetics and climate — and Gujarat's heat and humidity do not help. Aggressive cleansing removes the oil, the scalp reads that as a shortage, and it overcompensates. The routine that works is a gentle but genuinely purifying cleanse, used regularly, with conditioner kept to the mid-lengths and ends rather than the root.
Our top picks
- If you are oily at the root and dry at the ends: Kérastase Spécifique Bain Divalent. The most common combination in Indian hair, and this balances both rather than forcing you to choose.
- If hair fall comes with the oiliness: Kérastase Genesis Bain Hydra-Fortifiant, the lightweight Genesis shampoo built for fine or oily hair.
- If there is flaking too: Kérastase Symbiose Bain Pureté Anti-Pelliculaire, which controls oil and exfoliates flakes together.
- For a deeper purifying cleanse: L'Oréal Professionnel Scalp Advanced Anti-Oiliness Shampoo, or the 2-in-1 Clay for a weekly reset.
- Between washes: Kérastase Fresh Affair dry shampoo absorbs oil at the root without the chalky cast.
